Mark Kairis was sworn in as a Hanford City Council Member on December 2, 2022.
In 1984, Mark's family moved to Hanford from Louisville, Kentucky. In 1987, Mark joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP). During his three decades with the agency, he served in the San Jose, Bakersfield, Visalia and Hanford areas, before working for the Central Division (Fresno) chief and retiring as commander of the Madera Area in 2016. Some of Mark's more interesting assignments include dignitary protection, hazardous materials (HazMat), and Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Teams (MAIT).
Mark is married with three children and two grandchildren. Outside of his council duties, Mark is an avid golfer and high school sports official.
“My goal was to get on the council, to work with four other council members and the City staff and take Hanford to the future and help plan for what’s coming next," Kairis said. "I’m not going to be here forever, but I think we can all put our work into it and make it better.”
