The Street Maintenance Division provides Hanford residents with a crucial service - maintenance of more than 207 centerline miles of roadway and all of the curb, gutter, and sidewalk within the city's jurisdiction
Street Maintenance division performs nearly 500,000 square feet of cape seal treatment, 325,000 square feet of residential slurry seal treatment, 30,000 square feet of deep patching and applies more than 20,000 pounds of crack seal each fiscal year.
In addition to traditional roadway improvements, the street maintenance division installs approximately 1500 linear feet of curb and gutter and 30,000 square feet of sidewalk each year.
The City of Hanford has 50 signal controlled intersections. Each of the signalized intersections requires maintenance to ensure the proper functioning of the computerized signal equipment. The city utilizes energy efficient light emitting diode (LED) signals as a means of providing a brighter light display as well as a cost savings on energy usage.
You can help maintain city streets and sidewalks by calling the street maintenance division or filling the form out on this website if you notice damaged asphalt or sidewalks. Your call will help us effect speedy repairs and keep our streets and sidewalks in good condition.
Leaf Pick-Up Program
Once again, the City of Hanford will begin its annual leaf pickÔ??up program commencing on November 14, 2016 and continuing through January 13, 2017. For City crews to properly pick up leaves at your residence, it is recommended that the leaves be raked into piles at the curb and not near any parked vehicles.
Please place leaves approximately 20 inches away from the curb to allow drainage in the gutters. Do not place limbs or grass in the street. These items will not be picked up by our street sweepers or leaf pick up crews. Your leaf pick up date is the same day that the City street sweeper is in your area. Every effort will be made to pick up leaves the day before the street sweeper cleans your area.
Street Sweeping Program
Hanford has always taken pride in the cleanliness of our City. Much of this "clean look" is a result of the street cleaning program. The City sweeps the residential streets once a week and the downtown area on a five day a week basis. Each year approximately 30,000 centerline miles of streets are swept. This program also assists us in the implementation of our Storm Water Management Plan by keeping dirt and debris out of our basins and canals.
