Fire Suppression and Response

The goal of the fire suppression division is to reduce the loss of life and property by swift and efficient response to all emergencies. The suppression division accounts for the majority of the department's staffing and budget.

The highest priority of suppression crews is to be available for response at any given time for any type of emergency.

When not responding to emergencies, fire personnel have other duties and responsibilities such as training and maintenance of protection systems that support the overall mission of the department and maintain readiness. Some Typical duties include hydrant inspection/repair, apparatus maintenance, fire hose maintenance and sprinkler system inspection

Training is very important for fire service employees. Training allows fire personnel to maintain their professional and technical skills. Topics include emergency medical training, rescue drills, hazardous materials training, equipment operation, and fire suppression. The sources of training may be private, local, state, or federal.
